If I could have convinced more slaves
that they were slaves,
I could have freed
thousands more.
~Harriet Tubman
I pondered this quote for awhile, thinking about life today.
How free do we want to be?
Do we want to be totally free?
or are we content to be a little bit in bondage to some
things we hold dearer than total surrender to Jesus?
A person has to be thoroughly convinced that they are a slave
before they can be totally freed.
We can be a slave to:
gluttony
good works being our security for eternal life
outward adorning
material things
attention and approval of others
our family image or name
I love the promise in 2 Cor. 5:17:
"If anyone be in Christ, he is a new creature;
old things are passed away,
and behold, ALL things become new."
True freedom brings new life where waste places once were.
True freedom brings deliverance from idols, selfish lusts and pride.
True freedom brings new and lasting power to anyone
willing to bury the old nature in death with Christ Jesus.
True freedom comes from the resurrection power of
Jesus Christ!
Hallelujah!
